Is Simily worth it?

I publish content once in a while on Simily, one of the latest revenue share content platforms. People are calling it the new Medium, I don’t think it’s quite there yet but it’s potentially a great platform for fiction writers to showcase and earn some small change from their work.

I write non-fiction content on Simily and to be honest, I rarely post these days and I don’t spend much time on the platform for a number of reasons.

First, it’s terribly glitchy and I’ve spent 30 to 40 minutes at times trying to publish one piece of content because of a constant glitch.

Second, I need to spend hours promoting my content as the inbuilt audience currently sits at less than 5000 members.

Anyway, last month, I published eight articles, all reposts from my old Vocal account, with no new content.

I earned just over $13 last month from Simily.

Nothing to write home about but it’s something.

I still haven’t received that money because Simily made the decision to change their payment system without informing the writers.

They then sent a random email on the day payment was due to say that we need to fill out tax information through Tipalti or we won’t get paid.

I spent more than an hour filling out this tax information and another glitch meant that my details were incomplete. I decided to leave it and I’ve been told by Simily that I won’t get paid until I complete this information.

This is my opinion:

Simily should have sent a detailed email about their new system instead of springing it on us the day we were supposed to get paid.

I’ve been told that I have to fill out this information otherwise my payment won’t be released. Strange because they could have explained this new policy way before the payment date. Don’t ya think?

Will I continue to publish on Simily?

I will probably publish the rest of my old Vocal content and leave it at that for now. Why? I can make more money elsewhere for less effort therefore, I think I will leave Simily for the fiction writers for now.

I’m not saying it’s the worst place to publish your content but the platform needs to improve before I’m willing to put more eggs into that basket.
